Last year, we welcomed Rory Mahony to MOVE Guides as a Sales Development Representative for EMEA in London.
As a member of MOVE Guides' sales team, he is responsible for actively seeking out opportunities to help companies expand their global reach and empower their employees with the best relocation experience on the market. Rory works with companies to understand their global mobility needs and help them see the value in transitioning their mobility program into the cloud.
Before working for MOVE Guides, Rory was a temporary contracted hire for the sales team in EMEA for Workday in Dublin and was a part of the Captain Dash team in Paris as a PR and Social Media Community Manager and Intern.
Rory received his Undergraduate Degree in Commerce and Spanish from University College Cork, and spent a year on ERASMUS in San Sebastian, Spain to improve his Spanish and study business topics through Spanish. In September 2012, he began his Masters program in Innovation in European Business, which included three semesters across three European universities, UCC Cork, ISC Paris and HU Utrecht Netherlands. Originally from Ireland, Rory speaks three languages, enjoys playing sports in the park and loves traveling to new locations.
MOVE Guides Questionnaire
What do you love about living in London?
"Living abroad introduces you to diverse cultures and opens your eyes to new perspectives. London is a very diverse city and has so much to offer. There is always something happening and tons of options for a great time. It is also an excellent place to start a career and develop lifelong friendships."
What is challenging about being an expat?
"It will always be a challenge to stay in touch with old friends; no matter how much social media and technology enables constant communication. Make a point to call and try scheduling catch up time if people are too busy. Also, language barriers can be challenging but this also offers a unique opportunity to learn a new language. Looking back on my relocation experiences, I definitely wish I had MOVE Guides."
What advice do you have?
"Enter with an open mind and really go above and beyond to meet and engage with locals. Living abroad can be a once in a lifetime opportunity to understand what life is really like in new city, so try to expand beyond your expat bubble and enjoy all the culture that it has to offer."
What do you love about MOVE Guides?
"There is such an energetic vibe at MOVE Guides and it is seen on all levels of the company. It is also incredible to see how fast our team and product is growing. I came back after one week in the SF office and we already have five new people starting in the London office and have new and exciting features to discuss."
What is your favorite quote?
"If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast." - Ernest Hemingway
