You all know our CEO and founder, Brynne Herbert, so now it's time to meet the rest of the MOVE Guides family…

At MOVE Guides, we are very proud of our team’s diverse global background. Unlike any other relocation team, our office represents a wide range of countries, languages, skill-sets and experiences to bring a uniquely global experience to life at MOVE Guides. This also makes for an exceptionally fun World Cup party at 19-21 Hatton Garden.

In a new series of “Get to Know Our Team” blog posts, we will highlight the diverse and talented group behind MOVE Guides—dedicated to making mobility easy for thousands of employees relocating around the world. This week, we feature MOVE Guides’ COO, Steve Black and his journey from the Midwest to London. Read on to hear what advice he has to offer recent expats on living in London.

As many of his colleagues would say, Steve is the Yoda of MOVE Guides. Since joining MOVE Guides at the beginning in 2011, Steve has been there to see the company grow from a small London-based startup to an award-winning global mobility solution supporting moves to 100+ cities across six continents.

At MOVE Guides, Steve is responsible for our excellent product experience, supplier relationships and MOVE Advocate support. An expatriate himself, Steve understands the challenges of moving abroad, and is dedicated to ensuring that everything we do at MOVE Guides is in the best interest of our customers.

Originally from the great state of Illinois, Steve has worked and lived across the US, Switzerland and New Zealand before planting his feet in London. Steve was previously an Associate Partner at Oliver Wyman, where he lead multi-million dollar consulting engagements across North America and EMEA. His work spanned aviation, retail, insurance and energy, focusing on helping clients turn data into actionable insights and operational improvements.

Representing his Mid-western roots, Steve holds a BsC in Industrial Engineering and Economics from Northwestern University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He currently lives in Primrose Hill with his wife Emily.

Advice for new expats:

“Moving can be stressful on many levels but take each day at a time. Plan your move to best of your ability, use the resources available to you (hopefully MOVE Guides) and be adaptable to change. Also, when you see yourself getting stressed about the move, remember that you are moving to an exciting new city and have the opportunity to meet new people, try new things and make tons of great memories.”

Favourite place to travel:

“Antarctica is hands down the most amazing place on earth – not easy to get to, but well worth the journey. Incredible landscapes and amazing wildlife – all with an incredible silence that only comes from being so far away from civilization.”

Favourite part of working for MOVE Guides:

“Definitely the people. I am a firm believer that you are only as good as the team you work with, and we have a fantastic group at MOVE Guides that inspire me on a daily basis. All unique in their own way, bringing with them a piece of what makes MOVE Guides like no other company.”

Fun Fact:

“Before joining MOVE Guides, I developed and funded a new type of pen on Kickstarter, that reached our funding goal in less than 48 hours and ultimately raised over $100,000. A whirlwind of an experience that brought a lot of great memories, manufacturing war stories and a fun story to tell.”
